Music and dancing have fascinated me since my childhood.

First it was jazz dance, then later oriental dance. For many years now, in addition to line dancing, salsa, bachata and kizomba have also been my great passions.

I discovered line dancing in January 2010. I was looking for a dance that could be done without a partner. I've always loved country music, so I signed up for a workshop with Bea Huwiler (Crazyfoot) in Nebikon. I enthusiastically learned over 200 choreographies (many of them on my own at home). I've since lost count of the dances I've learned, and I've forgotten many of them. But my favorites and the most recent choreographies are reliably stored in my mind.

At various events, I was often asked if I taught. So, in the summer of 2011, I decided to start teaching myself. In 2012, I completed the teacher training with the Swiss Linedance Association (SCWDA).

Line dancing is very much in keeping with modern times. At the numerous country nights in the region, young and old gather to dance together. It's a type of social dance where everyone dances individually. The group forms several lines and dances the set, repeating steps in sync.

Each piece of music - often from the country genre - has its own choreography.

Line dancing is a relatively new dance style, only being danced in its current form since around 1980. It originated in the USA, and therefore the European folk dances of those who emigrated there can likely be considered its roots. Initially, line dancing was not closely connected to country music.Achy Breaky Heart"With Billy Ray Cyrus, line dancing became synonymous with country music. This influence lasted for quite some time, but has diminished significantly since the late 1990s."

In Switzerland, country music is still the most popular dance genre. However, many dances from other musical styles (pop, hip hop, Latin, current chart hits) are also very popular.

My classes reflect this mix, so I teach about 70% country choreography and 30% other styles.
